It's always the most popular event on the Spondon calendar and, once again this year, Spondon Alight didn't disappoint!
Thousands flocked into Spondon village centre to enjoy the annual Christmas lights switch-on celebrations, generating another fantastic atmosphere throughout the village.
Fun fair rides, live music and various stalls filled Sitwell Street, Chapel Street and Chapelside precinct while the Village Hall, Liberal Club and Village Club hosted a variety of stalls and tombolas. There were also horse and carriage rides to enjoy in the special Cinderella coach and, of course, Santa and his helper were on hand to spread some festive cheer too!
The lights switch-on ceremony was performed by the Mayor of Derby and then the lights blazed to life accompanied by an amazing five-minute fireworks display.
The annual celebration is organised by the Spondon Traders Association as a thank you to Spondon residents for supporting local businesses throughout the year. We spoke to STA chairman, Mark Davis, during the night and he was delighted with the way the evening had gone.
"I think this is definitely our busiest year yet" said Mark. "As always, the atmosphere is amazing and is fantastic to see so many people turning out to support and enjoy the event."
